Just yesterday we ticked over 5000 downloads from our Printables.com profile! It feels nice that people are finding our designs so useful and we thank everyone who has left a five star review.

Take a look at our profile and see what people have said about our models. It’s always fun to see one of them 3D printed by someone half-way around the world.

Our most downloaded model is the extended caulking nozzle I produced out of need while renovating our bathroom. It was handy when I needed to put a bead of silicon behind the benchtop basin.

Thanks again to everyone for your support!

Lannix Shop Is Now Open! https://lannixdesign.com.au/2024/01/24/lannix-shop-is-now-open/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2024/01/24/lannix-shop-is-now-open/#comments Tue, 23 Jan 2024 21:30:25 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5362

I’ve been working on our store website in the background for a long while now. It was to be a place to sell my 3D printed goods and any other items I came up with in the meantime.

Since moving house over a year ago, the 3D printers haven’t been set up for mass producing and they won’t be until the workshop under the house is finally finished.

You’ll know if you follow my blog that I’ve moved to creating content for YouTube as an outlet for my creative energy.

Consequently, the shop will offer fabrication drawings produced in the process of creating the video content for YouTube. You’ll find the drawings are of a high standard and the price is very low in the hopes of getting people interested in my products. I produced fabrication drawings for a living in my previous career as a mechanical engineer and I hope that the quality reflects that.

The site is powered by WooCommerce and has the proven security and reliability that they have built on for many years. So please, if you want to support me and my family, take a look at the online store and check back in the future as the shop is continually updated!

Thanks so much!

Check out our first video of 2024! I’m working on continual improvement in my video production and I hope it shows. I’m particularly proud of this one.

Also, plans are available in our online store if you’d like to build a treasure chest like this for yourself or a loved one!

Building A Pirate Treasure Chest For My Son https://lannixdesign.com.au/2024/01/17/building-a-pirate-treasure-chest-for-my-son/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2024/01/17/building-a-pirate-treasure-chest-for-my-son/#respond Tue, 16 Jan 2024 21:30:08 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5346

I had the idea to build a treasure chest for Emmet months ago before the shed was even built. Leading up to the Christmas break, I thought I had plenty of time to get it done but then the renovation project came up, where Jade had decided to take a week off work so we could make a start on it. I managed to get the treasure chest done though, getting the final coat of oil on it the day before we were due to leave to spend Christmas with my family.

I’m quite proud of this one, and I hope when he’s older, Emmet will be proud of me too. I put a lot of work into designing and building the chest and I hope it comes across that way when you watch the video.

If you think I did alright and would like to make a treasure chest for yourself of a loved one, I’ve made the fabrication drawings available on our online store for a couple of bucks. Check out the link below if you’re interested in grabbing a copy! We really appreciate your support!

For more woodworking content, check out the video below where I build a set of shelves around our TV to spruce up the lounge room.

Free Triple 4K Wallpaper! https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/08/16/free-triple-4k-wallpaper/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/08/16/free-triple-4k-wallpaper/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 21:30:06 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=4713

I’ve traditionally just found a bunch of pictures I like (usually of cars) to use for my computers desktop wallpaper. I’ve had triple monitors for a few years now but I never thought, until recently, to look for a wallpaper that spans across all three as one long picture. A quick search online for triple 4K resolution wallpapers found that either they weren’t actually 4K or they just weren’t very good. The one that I found that I did like was locked behind a paywall…

The version with cars on our triple 4K monitor setup.

I’ve been mucking around with Blender the last couple of weeks making a video for our YouTube channel and suddenly had the idea that I could make my own wallpaper in whatever resolution I wanted. I liked the brick wall render I made for the main page of the website so I decided to use that blender file as a base and add a few personal touches.

I got carried away with lights inspired by the colours of the YouTube logo and couldn’t resist adding some cars in there as well. I actually didn’t think about sharing the images while I was making them but it dawned on me that someone else might enjoy them, so here they are.

Brick Wallpaper

A simple, stylized brick wall with the Lannix Design sign glowing away. Teal and orange spotlights glow to create a nice ambience.

Brick Wallpaper With Cars In Silhouette

The same background but this time offered with two of my favourite cars in silhouette. It features the Nissan S30 240Z and the BMW E30 M3. The effect is subtle and mysterious.

I hope you enjoy the wallpapers. If you have any tips or suggestions for more wallpapers, let me know. I enjoyed making them and don’t need much of an excuse to try some more!

This week we’re proud to announce that we’ve had over 3000 downloads of our original 3D model designs on Printables.com.

For those unfamiliar with Printables, it is a website that allows users to upload their original creations for others to download and 3D print for themselves. The website is hosted by Prusa Research, the company that sells the ever reliable i3 MK3S that we use for our 3D printing jobs. Their 3D printers are well known among enthusiasts and professionals and are considered the workhorse that stands up to constant use.

Please check out our bio on the Printables site and try out some of our designs if you have your own 3D printer.

December 2021 – Downloading models for 3D printing https://lannixdesign.com.au/2021/12/10/december-2021-downloading-models-for-3d-printing/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2021/12/10/december-2021-downloading-models-for-3d-printing/#respond Thu, 09 Dec 2021 21:30:05 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=1616

People often talk to me about 3D printing and are fascinated by the process. To some it seems like only nerds can do it and that is certainly true to some extent! You don’t need to be an expert in computers and CAD to find something to interesting to 3D print.

There are many website around that offer free to download 3D models that you can 3D print yourself or can have us 3D print for you here at Lannix 3D.

An older relative of mine said he reckons 3D printing is just making little plastic knick-knacks but that is far from the truth. We have endeavoured to showcase some of the useful objects that can be produced with 3D printing and aim to introduce to many the advantages of having a 3D printer. We believe in future, having a 3D printer in the home or workshop will be as commonplace as having a computer.

The Lannix logo was designed in house but you don’t have to know CAD to have something to 3D print

Just recently, my dad broke some plastic clips in the back of his car seats which had gone brittle over time. 3D modelling them and printing out replacements was a simple job. Check out some of our other blog posts to see some of the handy parts we’ve made using CAD and 3D printing.

But I digress… Check out the websites below for some FREE STUFF!

Websites with free 3D models

Printables.com is the official 3D model sharing site of Prusa Printers. It seems to have higher quality models than most and is the favourite here at Lannix Design!

MakerBot’s Thingiverse is probably the most popular website for 3D model downloads and is setup for 3D printing.  All 3D content is free to download.

MyMiniFactory guarantees the models they have are verified to be 3D printable.  Most models are free to download but they have recently expanded to include paid content.

Thangs is a compiler for multiple 3D model websites meaning that it will search most of the sites mentioned and display them on the same page for you.  It’s a newer site but there’s already heaps of models free to download.

UltiMaker’s YouMagine is a site that has good quality 3D model downloads but not as many as some of the other sites.  All 3D content is free to download.

The Smithsonian Institution has 3D scanned a lot of the display items in their museum.  They’re kind enough to offer them up on their website for free download.

GrabCAD is more of a resource for engineers to assist with designing  new parts that need to interact with existing real-world parts.  The models are free to download and are very handy to have in your design kit.

Websites with 3D models worth paying for!

3D sets have designed the Landrover model that we have produced along with some other RC vehicles. The amount of design work that has gone into creating these vehicles for 3D printing is astounding!
