The first job that I did as Lannix design was back in 2019 for a friend who is a property developer on the Sunshine Coast. He was after an architectural model of his latest project.
I was excited and enthusiastic to do it since I really enjoyed scale modelling in the past and it gave me a good excuse to buy a resin SLA 3D printer so I could easily make accessories to add detail to the model.
It ended up being quite a big project for which I severely undercharged. Oh well, live and learn! I spent a week modelling the building using supplied architectural drawings as a guide and doing it in a way so that all the parts could be laser cut from 3 & 6mm MDF and 1mm acrylic. It was very time consuming to convert all of the 3D walls into 2D DXF vector format especially with the added challenge of making each floor removable as one piece as specified by the client.

The model was produced in 1/43 scale which enabled the use of cheap model cars as props. It went fairly smoothly as I had some experience making models but it took much longer than initially thought.
I found 3D models of most of the furniture online and modelled up what wasn’t available. These models were then printed with the resin printer which produced amazing results. Unfortunately the resin printer was quite finicky and was prone to failures where the models wouldn’t stick to the build plate. For this reason Lannix Design doesn’t offer resin 3D printing.
I would like to get that machine to work properly one day but at this stage it isn’t worth the time. Also the resin smells awful and makes everyone around it nauseous so I’d need to build some sort of enclosure for it with adequate venting.
Anyway, enough about that. The model ended up looking very nice but at that time I wasn’t in the mindset to be taking pictures of all my work so I’m afraid I’ve posted all that I have. You’ll have to take my word for it that it looked great in the end!
