I’ve been working on our store website in the background for a long while now. It was to be a place to sell my 3D printed goods and any other items I came up with in the meantime.

Since moving house over a year ago, the 3D printers haven’t been set up for mass producing and they won’t be until the workshop under the house is finally finished.

You’ll know if you follow my blog that I’ve moved to creating content for YouTube as an outlet for my creative energy.

Consequently, the shop will offer fabrication drawings produced in the process of creating the video content for YouTube. You’ll find the drawings are of a high standard and the price is very low in the hopes of getting people interested in my products. I produced fabrication drawings for a living in my previous career as a mechanical engineer and I hope that the quality reflects that.

The site is powered by WooCommerce and has the proven security and reliability that they have built on for many years. So please, if you want to support me and my family, take a look at the online store and check back in the future as the shop is continually updated!

Thanks so much!

Check out our first video of 2024! I’m working on continual improvement in my video production and I hope it shows. I’m particularly proud of this one.

Also, plans are available in our online store if you’d like to build a treasure chest like this for yourself or a loved one!

Renovating The Front Verandah – Part 1 https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/12/20/renovating-the-front-verandah-part-1/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/12/20/renovating-the-front-verandah-part-1/#respond Tue, 19 Dec 2023 21:30:34 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5297

Finally, we’ve been able to start on the second stage of our home renovation project. Come and join us while we get busy transforming our neglected verandah into an ensuite for us, an office for our son and a new front porch for our visitors.

In part one of this renovation project, we tackle the ceiling insulation, or lack of, by building new rafters and battens to hold up the insulation while we work. Following that, we get into the real stuff, replacing the floorboards and some missing joists to create a sturdy platform for some new walls, doors and windows.

Our goal for our five day intensive worker bee, was to get the place ready for our electrician and plumber to come and run their cables and pipes. Spoiler alert! We did it and we’re excited to get back into it over the Christmas break. We’ll be sure to film any progress we make in the meantime.

Backyard Blitz! – The Video https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/11/22/backyard-blitz-the-video/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/11/22/backyard-blitz-the-video/#respond Tue, 21 Nov 2023 21:30:55 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5254

We’ve been busy with multiple projects going on at once but this is one we’re glad is finally finished. We take you through cleaning up the backyard and preparing it for the concrete driveway pour. Then I hired a mini excavator and levelled everything in preparation for laying 100 square metres of turf.

Enjoy!

Update: Backyard Blitz! https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/11/01/update-backyard-blitz/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/11/01/update-backyard-blitz/#respond Tue, 31 Oct 2023 21:30:43 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5185

I have a couple of projects on the go at the moment, as well as some health issues that I’ve been dealing with. At the top of the list has been preparing the backyard for a concrete driveway into the new shed. I wasn’t able to do the concreting myself since it’s not a one man job and I don’t have any friends nearby who’d be able to help out.

So we contacted Andrew from Farrow Concreting and he had it done within two weeks of my call. He and his crew did the slab for the shed and were a real pleasure to deal with. It seems hard to get trades in to do work these days so I was glad he could accommodate us so quickly.

Give him a call on 0413 131 185 if you’re in Brisbane and in need of some concreting.

The start of all this backyard transformation stuff.

While the concrete was being done I took the time to take out an old chain-link fence that ran the length of our block and served no purpose. I was glad that the baby monitor has the range to reach the backyard so I can get things done out there.

After the driveway was laid and allowed to cure for a couple of weeks, we tried to get in someone with a machine to level the yad and spread out some topsoil for us. Unfortunately, nobody was available so I thought I’d have a crack at doing it myself, hiring a mini excavator. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with the machine!

Next step is to lay some turf and find a company to build a front fence for us so we don’t have to worry about the little man running around in the yard.

Stay tuned to our YouTube channel for the video documenting the process, coming soon!

Make Your Own Shelves! DIY Video https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/10/18/make-your-own-shelves-diy-video/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/10/18/make-your-own-shelves-diy-video/#respond Tue, 17 Oct 2023 21:30:35 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5067

Check out what I’ve been up to in the last couple of weeks! The wall behind our TV wasn’t finished while we were doing the first round of renovations since it wasn’t a priority. We had it in mind that we’d make some timber shelves ourselves later down the line and that time is now.

It was a relatively simple project as far as woodworking goes but hopefully you’ll find some tips and tricks if you’re looking to make something similar for yourself.

I’m really happy with how this one turned out so have a look so I can keep the momentum up!

Epoxy Coating The Shed Floor – Shed Build – Part 4 https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/10/04/epoxy-coating-the-shed-floor-shed-build-part-4/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/10/04/epoxy-coating-the-shed-floor-shed-build-part-4/#respond Tue, 03 Oct 2023 21:30:49 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=5035

I’ve been uploading YouTube video tutorials on 3D modelling and animation lately since I’ve had limited capacity for IRL projects. Now the shed is finally built, I’ll hopefully be able to get more practical content for you, although I’ll be using 3D modelling to visualize and plan out upcoming projects.

If you’re curious about what it takes to coat a concrete floor with a durable epoxy coating, check out my latest offering on YouTube. I’ve covered cleaning and preparation as well as the application of the epoxy from Dy-Mark. I’ve tried hard to make the video entertaining and informative at the same time since a lot of practical tutorial videos are either pretty dry or don’t have a lot of production value.

Please enjoy and let me know if you have any feedback to help me create better videos for you!

It’s Finally Built! – Shed Build – Part 3 https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/09/06/its-finally-built-shed-build-part-3/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/09/06/its-finally-built-shed-build-part-3/#respond Tue, 05 Sep 2023 21:30:52 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=4788

As regular visitors would know, I’ve been super keen to get the backyard shed built so we can finally move on with more renovations. I’m pleased to report that last week that it has finally happened!

This means that I’ve acquired enough footage to make a feature video for our YouTube channel. I’ve put a lot of effort into coming up with a compelling story to keep viewers interested while watching the cool timelapse videos I captured during the six-month build window.

If you watch the video and have some advice for me to make future videos more enjoyable, please let me know in the comments here or on YouTube. I’m aiming to make my videos as entertaining as I can and I’d appreciate your feedback!

If you haven’t yet, check out our previous videos where we make the logo in Fusion 360 and then animate the logo in Blender. They’re both great tutorials for beginners in 3D modelling and animation.

Emmet’s Room Sign https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/06/28/emmets-room-sign/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/06/28/emmets-room-sign/#respond Tue, 27 Jun 2023 21:30:38 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=3711

When my son was born it was the best thing that had ever happened to me. He inspires me to keep going with my work in the hope that I’ll make him proud to be my son.

A fun little project I decided to build was a bedroom door sign for him inspired by the Back To The Future movies. I’d been experimenting with colour changing 3D printing and since I already had the colours it was a no-brainer. Being a more artistic style 3D model it presented some challenges and required the use of Blender to post-process before printing but overall it was an enjoyable project.

I made a YouTube short that skimmed over the process of making the sign so check it out if you’re interested.

EDIT: I’ve entered the model in the ‘Typography Fun!’ competition on Printables.com. Click the Printables logo below to take a look at the model on their site and download if your named Emmet or know someone with the name!

Quick Guide – Install An Eyelet Curtain https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/05/24/quick-guide-install-an-eyelet-curtain/ https://lannixdesign.com.au/2023/05/24/quick-guide-install-an-eyelet-curtain/#respond Tue, 23 May 2023 21:30:08 +0000 https://lannixdesign.com.au/?p=3633

More renovations! See how we installed an eyelet curtain in our kitchen. There may be another video on curtain installs soon since I’m not sure about the look of these eyelet jobbies.

Don’t worry, I have better ideas for content. This is all I can film at this point!

Check out the 37 second long clip. It’s neato burrito!

Most of my spare time has been spent renovating our house lately so I thought I’d try documenting the process. I’ve made a video that I thought may be helpful for some people who are interested in trying some DIY work on their own house.

Tradco door handles look great in older Australian homes. Since we’ve tried to style our house like a modern interpretation of the classic Queenslander style house, we’ve chosen one of the Tradco door handles that looks the part.

Check out the video if you’re interested in these handles and find out about some of the traps that come with them!
